GP Caffè Borbone: great success for the first edition
Around 90 young cycling talents from various Italian regions and abroad took part in the race. Among them, 18-year-old Enea Sambinello from Emilia-Romagna claimed victory in a sprint finish, winning the first edition of the event. The competition, born from a collaboration between Caffè Borbone and Team Technipes #inEmiliaRomagna, is part of the official race calendar for the Junior cycling category.
The riders competed along the picturesque hills of Romagna, in areas that will also feature in the second stage of the Tour de France 2024. Starting from Errano di Faenza, the peloton covered a 108 km course, completing eight laps of the Coralli Bassi circuit and one of the Coralli Alti circuit. The final 25 km included three Gran Premio della Montagna climbs: a first ascent at Rio Chié, followed by the climb to Monticino—which is also featured in the second stage of the Tour de France 2024—and a second pass at the summit of Rio Chié, just 5 km from the finish line in Brisighella.
The GP Caffè Borbone marks another chapter in the collaboration between the leading single-serve coffee brand and Team Technipes #inEmiliaRomagna, who previously joined forces for the Suzuki Bike Day in June at the Imola Circuit. However, this was the first race organized as part of their partnership, reinforcing Caffè Borbone’s commitment to supporting young sports talents—from cycling to skiing—believing in the importance of sports as a tool for personal growth and as a catalyst for the development and empowerment of entire communities and territories.
«Young people are our future, and we are proud to have promoted a race for the Junior category together with Caffè Borbone, said Davide Cassani, former head coach of the Italian national cycling team and founder of Team Technipes #inEmiliaRomagna. These 17- and 18-year-old riders dream of becoming professionals. While only a few will achieve that dream, for all of them, growing up with cycling will be a lifelong lesson. That’s why I thank Caffè Borbone for giving us the opportunity to create this wonderful event for so many young riders who are passionate about cycling».
